- What is Rummy- It is a famous card game where you have to try to improve the hand that you originally get. This can be done whenever your turn comes, i.e. by drawing more cards from the pile or picking up the card thrown by the rival, and then throwing a card from your own hand. The game can be played with two or even more rivals, depending on the platform.
- What is the Purpose- You have to meld or put cards into proper combinations. Runs are where there are three or more cards of the same suit in successive sequences. Sets are where there are 3-4 cards with the same rank.
How to Play-
- Every player gets a particular number of rummy cards from the master deck. This may be 10 in most cases if you are playing with up to three more people. If there are five players, then you will have six cards to yourself. More than five players mean seven cards each and two card decks.
- There has to be a dealing and scoring mechanism. Cards are dealt out and the remaining ones are kept in the face-down position in the center. The top card will be turned upward beside this deck.
- The player to the left-hand side of the dealer will begin. He/she can pick up the card on the pile of discarded cards or the topmost card in the stack.
- If they can combine cards into sets or runs, then these may be put on the table. If not, then they can either discard one card face-up onto the pile, and the play will move to the next participant.
- He/she can pick up the last card discarded or the stack’s top card. Some or all cards may be melded and put into combinations. The play will continue in a clockwise manner.
- Once the stock finishes, the discard pile can be shuffled and used again.
- Players may put down cards that fit with other melds already put by players. This technique is known as laying off.
- You cannot pick up the topmost discard and then put it back on the pile.
- When you pick up a card that you do not want, do not discard it right away. Put it into the hand and extract it.
