Consider these tips when writing a persuasive article

1. Be organized

One of the things you need to do when persuading your target audience is to make sure they’ll be able to follow you. If your writing is not organized – thoughts and ideas, then your audience won’t be able to follow you. How to make your writing organized?

a. It should be clear.
b. There should be an argumentative thesis statement/point of view.
c. Start the argument in a logical way followed by evidence, analysis, and counter-argument.

2. Know your target audience

In order to persuade someone, you need to first determine your target audience. After all, writing is a way of communicating, which is why it is of utmost importance to consider who you are writing for. Who do you want to persuade? Keep in mind that the opinion of your target audience is subjective. One audience may agree to your argument while the other may oppose.

3. Avoid having your readers wait

From an audience’s perspective, having them wait can be irritating. If you want to persuade your target audience, then you need to be upfront in your article. That way, you can catch their attention right from the very beginning. Always keep in mind that not all readers read your article up to the very end, especially if they feel like you are beating around the bush. Be upfront with your argument because that is one of the effective, if not the best way to capture the attention of your audience.

4. Show proofs

To persuade your target audience means showing proofs – indicating that your argument is true and valid. Site some data and other pertinent facts and if possible quote your sources of information. However, you should limit quotations to less than five in a particular write up.

5. Be unique and original

Every time you write content, you have to see to it that it is unique and original. Readers nowadays want a top of the line information; something they can’t find elsewhere. You can quote from other valid sources but see to it that the entire content is unique. By doing so, you will not only be able to persuade your target audience, but you will be able to build your credibility and reputation as a writer.

6. Create a balance

Keeping your audience into your writing can be quite difficult; you if you know how to balance formal and informal writing, then you can drive their attention to writing. How to do it? Be relatable. Don’t give too much information to the point that your reader won’t even bother reading your article up to the very end. It is okay to insert some personal anecdote, but then again, you need to find a perfect balance.

7. Be concise and direct

When writing with the intent of persuading your audience, you have to use active voice. As much as possible, you remove needless words. You should use powerful nouns and adjectives. At the end of the article, you can use emphatic words to let your readers feel what you want them to feel and convey actions when need to.

There are various techniques you can use to write persuasively. These are the following:

• Consistency

If you are consistent, then you are building your integrity and credibility not only as a writer but as a person. By being consistent, you are getting the reader to agree with your argument.

• Social proof

Include testimonials and referrals as your proof. Casually include social proof in your writing.

• Agitate and solve

You need to identify the problem and move forward to qualifying your audience. You are connecting with your target audience by agitating their pain and afterwards offer a solution. That’s how you are going to get them to agree with your arguments.

• Comparison

If you are writing to persuade, your must-include writing techniques are similes, metaphors, and analogies. You are convincing the audience to see things the way you see it and by making a comparison, you are indirectly convincing them to agree with your arguments.

• Prognosticate

With this persuasive writing approach, you are giving the readers a glimpse of the future. You are presenting a future outcome of a particular thing or event that is current. Since it is current, it is a must to have idea on what you are talking about because that’s the only way you can built your integrity. If your target audience sees you as someone knowledgeable, then you will not have a problem getting them on board with your arguments.
