You might think the internet has enough bloggers. After all, it seems like every Tom, Dick and Harriet has a blog of their own or are writing for someone else blog. But you know what? The internet still needs content. Every single day new blogs and websites are popping up that need to be populated with new and relevant content. Someone has to write those blogs you know. They don’t just magically appear. Although, there are a lot of blogging companies out there that wish the content would just magically appear! If you are thinking of breaking into the blogging industry, don’t keep putting it off. You can get started blogging right away. All it takes is a little homework and a little elbow grease.
You can make a pretty lucrative living writing for other people’s blogs. If you aren’t too tired to one topic, you can become a freelance writer and write for a variety of websites and blogs. A lot of first time bloggers think they need to work on their own stuff first, like I did when I wanted to create my blog, but then I found out that it is easier to break into blogging when you go out and look for paid work. You can build a reputation as a good writer in a short period of time. Bloggers tend to travel in packs and share writers across their networks. So if you can do a decent job, you can get more work to keep you going.
When considering starting a career as a blogger, even a part-time blogger, you’ll want to have some ground rules for yourself. For example, you’ll need to know how much money you’ll charge for your services; unfortunately, sometimes you have to just take what is being offered as payment to get your foot in the door. It doesn’t take too long to start building a portfolio that pays though, so don’t be discouraged if you aren’t making the kind of cash you dreamed of right away. You should also consider how much time you have to dedicate to your blogging efforts. You can’t work 24 hours a day so make sure you set aside some dedicated time to write each day.
You’ll also want to consider what topics you won’t write about. Everyone is always talking about the topics they are knowledgeable in, but it is just as important to know your limits when it comes to blogging. Will you be comfortable writing adult content? What about information about guns? What about news stories that require research? Don’t just trade your time for money when start blogging, especially if your name is going to be attached to any blog or article you write.
Blogging can be a fun and interesting way to make a part-time or full-time income. Consider what you have to offer, what you won’t work on and how much you’ll charge when you get up and running and you’ll have a good framework for accepting writing jobs right away.
