Pros And Cons Of Owning A Horse

Many people have a dream of one day owning a horse. Before you start the search, it is important to weigh the pros and cons.

Pros And Cons Of Owning A Horse

Time

You need to have quite a bit of time that you can dedicate to your horse. They need to be trained, ridden, groomed and fed. Feeding must be done very day, but ideally you would do all of these things every day. You need to at least have a regular schedule or routine that includes all of this. There are people who board their horses, and part of the fee they pay at the facility is for someone to do these things with their horse.

Money

Most things related to horses have a pretty high price tag. The cost of the feed and equipment required for your horse can add up very quickly. Your horse also needs a place to live. Many horse owners don’t have space to keep a horse, so they pay a monthly fee to board their horse somewhere else. You may consider purchasing an insurance policy for your horse. The horse insurance cost may be worth it considering the high bet bills you may incur with even regular maintenance on your horse.

Friendship

The relationships you can build with horses are unlike any other. The more you bond with your horse and build up the level of trust, the greater your friendship. To some, it may seem crazy to think you can be friends with a horse, but it’s true. They each have their own personalities and quirks, but the more you learn about your horse and spend time with him, the stronger your bond will become. Soon you will see that any stress you may have been carrying throughout your day just melts away when you pay your horse a visit.

Owning a horse can be very costly and time consuming, but if you have the resources available, the pros far outweigh the cons.
