Online Casino Slots and Bingo – What are they and why are they popular in the UK

Online casinos are simply online versions of traditional casinos. They allow gamblers to play and gamble on all sorts of casino games online. Gamblers can also interact or chat with each other so it is a more social experience and it tends to proffer a higher return rate of customers.

In order for online gaming to be fair with its games it needs specific algorithms to generate random numbers. Generating random numbers may sound easy but in fact it is quite difficult. Humans absolutely cannot give strings of random numbers because of subconscious preferences and biases as well as having “lucky” numbers, birthdays, anniversaries and the like. Computers cannot generate genuinely random numbers without outside input. This is where the algorithms come in. Even these algorithms are not producing true randomness but it is as close as is feasibly possible to get without massive expenditures on software.

The algorithm software are actually called pseudo random number generators (PRNGs). Online casinos either rent or buy the software for the algorithms from various companies. They include CryptoLogic.Inc, International Game technology and Playtech to name a few.

There are two main types of casinos that are available to customers. The first is web-based so the users do not have to download software in order to gamble.  These games require browsers and good bandwidth is necessary because all the sounds and graphics are loaded from the web plugins.

There are some casinos that offer casino games through an HTML interface. None of the software for casino games is compatible with Apple devices. Sorry iphone and ipad users, it seems you may need to purchase an android phone or laptop if you are serious about participating in these games.

The second type is download based where customers need to download the game software before they can use it.  These casinos have service providers and do not rely on browser support at all.  These games run faster than web-based because the sound and graphics are cached in the customer’s software after they’ve downloaded it.

The downside to this is that internet downloads could potentially have malware and this is a not an uncommon occurrence. Customers should check the reviews and research the games thoroughly before downloading.

These games are highly regulated and frequently audited by governmental organizations to ensure the algorithm software isn’t “rigged” and that the advertised win percentages are very close to the stated odds. This gives the customers a bit of assurance that the games they are playing are fair.

This, of course, assumes that the customer trusts those who are doing the regulating. All the customary casino games such as slots, roulette and bingo rely heavily on the regulators and the software in order to provide genuinely fair win percentages.

In the UK, online gambling is completely legal for players over the age of 18 and surprisingly is a major facet of the British economy. The highly rigorous fashion in which the betting operators are regulated by the government and the fact that there is absolutely no tax on winnings is a huge selling point for this industry.

It seems that the British people have it good when it comes to online gambling and this is reflected in the high popularity it enjoys in these countries.
